About Rt Hon Sir John Key

The Rt Hon Sir John Key, GNZM AC, is a retired politician and former investment banker who served as the 38th Prime Minister of New Zealand from 2008 to 2016.

Before entering politics in 2002, he was a successful global head of foreign exchange at Merrill Lynch. After resigning as PM in 2016 to spend more time with family, Sir John transitioned back to the business world.

He now holds several directorial and advisory roles, including as the current Board Chairman of Oritain and a director for the American cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks. He retired as the chairman of the ANZ Bank New Zealand board in March 2024.

Sir John is also a global speaker on leadership and economics and, for a hobby, is a private helicopter pilot.
